Hello. Julie Abel here again with The Courageous Leader Show. Today, we’re continuing the topic about choice and understanding that the choice for the things that you do in your life is yours. I was working with a client this week whose manager had asked her to come up with a list of jobs that she’d like to do next. When she realized that she had a choice in the matter, one of the most important things that she did was make a list of the choices. She thought about what do I want to do next and wrote them down in a list, shared them with me, and then went through the list with me. When we went through the list, she realized that there were some things she was not interested in and there were some things that she really, really loved.

So, it’s important to not only understand that the choice of what you do in your career and your life is your choice. If you want to work for the company you’re working for, that’s your choice. And it’s also your choice to decide what’s next. A critical step is to write down what you want, go back, look at the list, work with a coach, have some insight about the choices that you make. I’d like to invite you to step into being a courageous leader and create the impactful career and life you desire with clarity, alignment, and focus. You can follow me at julieabelcoaching.com.

Choice

We’re going to talk about choice today. The definition of choice is the act of making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. And I think the most important word in that sentence is act. It’s important to realize that when you make a decision that’s an action and when you don’t make a decision you’re also acting by not making that decision.

For example, two weeks ago I reached out to my coach and said, “… I’m really frustrated with something that’s going on in my business, can you help me?” And she said, “Okay, what’s going on?” I explained it to her and then she said, “Why do you keep choosing this? Why do you keep choosing not to do something?” And I realized that not doing is also a choice.

I’d like you to think about today, where in your career next steps are you making a choice and making a decision? And where are you actually making a choice not to make a decision and not to take action? When you’re ready to take action, I’d like to invite you to step into being a courageous leader and create the impactful career and life you desire, with clarity, with alignment, and with focus.
